Buddy Walk

On Saturday October 3rd, I attended the annual Buddy Walk held by the Down Syndrome Outreach Organization (DSO), and the ARC of Bellingham. The walk was held at the Fairhaven Village Green.

The Buddy Walk is an awareness and support walk held for people with Down Syndrome. Down Syndrome is a set of physical and mental traits caused by an extra chromosome upon conception.

The Buddy Walk is about a half mile, and has many activities before and after the walk. Some of the activities are face painting, a corn sandbox, which is just like a sandbox but with corn kernels. They also have information stands where they hand out flyers and buddy bags. The entire time there is music from the band Out of the Ashes, which is a band for people with special needs.

I was absolutely enthralled by the Buddy Walk. This is the second year I have attended the walk, and I never fail to be astonished by how amazing it is, and how big the turnout is. It is so touching to be able to see how amazing and accepting our community can be.
